Decent Homes

In 1997 there were 2.1million houses owned by local authorities and housing associations that did not meet the decent homes standard. Decent homes are important for the health and well being of those living in them. Poor living conditions inevitably will make an area unpopular to live in, which in turn may lead to the breakdown of communities resulting in areas gaining bad reputations.

In 2001, the Government set a target to create sustainable communities by achieving ‘decent homes standards’ in social housing. By 2010, 95% of social housing will meet the decent homes standard of being warm, weatherproof, with modern facilities.

OUR ROLE

We work with major social housing contractors, local authorities, and housing associations to help them achieve ‘decent homes standards’. In order for them to achieve their goals we will;

  • Carry out improvements and replacement of kitchens
  • Carry out improvements and replacement of bathrooms
  • Carry out installation of new central heating
  • Improve and install insulation
  • Ensure properties are weatherproof by installing new roofs, uPVC fascias, soffits, and rainwater goods.
  • Carry out essential building repairs and maintenance
